Choosing colours…

We know all too well that choosing colour combinations can be troublesome, particularly online. That’s why we’ve come up with a set of scales that each yarn will fall somewhere on; helping to naturally divide the colours into clear groups that can then be discussed for colourway combinations.

Light - Gloaming - Dark
(how light or dark is the colour from white to black)

Semi-solid - Semi-tonal - Semi-variegated - Variegated
(how busy is the colourway)

Clear - Dusky - Muddy
(how true and clear is the colour to a primary colour)

Cool - Warm
(how cool or warm is the colour in tone - e.g. is it a green shade of blue or a pink shade of blue)

Un-blemished - Blemished - Speckled - Splattered
(how much will the speckles impact the finished fabric of the colourway)

High Contrast

Try choosing a light and a dark colourway; stick to semi-solid or semi-tonal; aim for at least one of the colours to be clear or un-blemished.

Fades

Choose a light, a gloaming and a dark; avoid the semi-solids, un-blemished and clear colourways for the most part; might be easier to stick to all cool or all warm for your whole fade.
