About Us

Established in 2020 on the 4th generation family farm of Beth Sparks, Telling Yarns began with subtle nuances of shifting colour that were ultimately wearable, yet unique.

Today, the approach remains true to the beginnings - offering beautiful, functional colours dyed only on our bespoke custom spun, all-British, non-superwash wool. Intended to help you create garments and pieces that will last for years to come.

British Wool

The yarns are exclusively spun at the British mill, John Arbon Textiles in North Devon. Given our farm location, it’s incredibly important that we support British farming and British industry. We partner with this fantastic British mill to source you the very best of British wool.

Our custom spin aims to produce a completely British non-superwash yarn that is soft, yet hard-wearing; with enough grip and a little bit of halo; which feels like home to wear and replaces the need for non-UK, Merino wool blends, and particularly mass produced superwash yarn, at Telling Yarns.

Our Exmoor Blueface, Bluefaced Leicester, Zwartbles, Wensleydale, Masham and Romney are all from local farms to the John Arbon Mill in Devon.

Conscience

All packaging is now sourced from Noissue, who are most definitely not the cheapest option available to us, but provide fantastic quality without costing the Earth, which is what really matters. Find out more here.

All our Electricity is sourced from renewables and at the farm we harvest our own solar power.
